Summary: If you are locked out of your Trium account, wait three minutes and try again.
What is an account lockout?
An account lockout happens when you enter your password incorrectly too many times.
It can also happen, through rarely, in cases where the laptop goes too long without a restart, or if you hit enter on your keyboard at the sign in screen without the correct password in the field. When an account lockout happens, Microsoft will lock your account and you will not able to try any more passwords until the lockout timer passes.
What is the lockout timer and what happens after a lockout?
You account will stay locked for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, if Microsoft has not detected any other suspicious activity on your account, then it will automatically unlock your account.
For each subsequent failed password attempt, it will increase the duration of your lockout, until Microsoft flags your account as risky.
Once your account is flagged as Risky, you will not be able to enter any more passwords, and you must reach out to IT for a password reset.
If you enter the correct password before your account is flagged as Risky, then you will be allowed to sign in, and the lockout timer will reset.
Note: At any point during this process, you can request a password reset from IT and it will reset the lockout timer.
What happens if I don’t know my password?
You can request a password reset from IT - they will validate your identity and then provide you with a temporary password that can be used to set a new, secure password.
How can I submit a password reset request?
You can submit a password reset request by contacting a member of IT out of band (via phone or text), or by having your manager contact IT via email, after they have validated the request.
The supporting agent will send the temporary password to either a known cell phone number or your manager in the case a number is not available.
