How to Share Files with External Recipients via OneDrive

Sharing via OneDrive

Create a folder in your OneDrive called "Shared", it's easiest to do from OneDrive in the browser

Open OneDrive in browser (portal.office.com > app launcher > OneDrive)
If you do not already have a folder dedicated to sharing externally, please do this step:
  1. From the left click +Add New , in the new window, type Shared, click Create
If you already have a Shared folder, please move on to the next step. 

The Shared folder is used to add either files or folders to be shared with external sources, and they will all be in one place.
  1. Within the Shared folder, either add a single file or create a folder and add multiple files to it
  2. You can name the file something descriptive like "Files shared with John Smith at Ariel"
  3. Click the three dots next to the new file filer or folder and choose Share
  4. Add the email address of the external recipient
  5. Update the View, Edit, or Download option as necessary
  6. Add a message, if applicable
  7. Click Send
In some cases, 
  1. The recipient will receive an encrypted email with an option to view the file.
  2. They must click the option to receive the temporay code.
  3. They will receive a temp code in a new email that can be used to access the sent file or folder

It is recommended to go through these steps with a test email to your own personal email, to see what the recipient will see, and be able to guide them through the steps to access the file.
